Surfaces
since 2024
Photographs of everyday surfaces: the interior wall of a subway car, the seat of a commuter train, a broken monitor. They resemble sensor noise, yet they are not. Without a caption, it is impossible to tell what is the camera and what is the world.

About the Series
Just as in photographic abstraction, which transformed cracks, walls, and asphalt into independent surfaces, a fragment of everyday life is detached from its context. But here, the surface refers back to the camera: the structure that the sensor creates in the dark is found outside—in the car, on the road, in passing. A broken LCD screen, photographed during a train ride, marks the beginning of a chain that gave rise to noise-filled surfaces and afterimages. The surfaces are usually displayed opposite the sensor works. Only the list of works reveals the connection.
